My band has made it when...

Introducing New Company

New Company is a 3-man fist punch of punk, rock energy from the Mississauga area. In the style of bands like NoFx and Green Day, the band offers both hard and smooth styles in their original demo offerings. With fearless vocal energy and a strong sense of timing and accentuation, New Company brings the party to every performance with an endless burst of punk-fueled energy.

New Company has played several local shows, but first stepped up to the Supernova stage at Toronto’s Velvet Underground for HYSTERIA this fall. Thanks to a 2nd place finish, the band won a half day of tracking in studio and a spot at the Sound Academy Finals. With crowds of over 500 in attendance, this was a major gig for the band and helped earn them a ton of industry attention.

On the back of this show, the band has been invited to perform next at the Coalition Showcase at Toronto’s El Mocambo on Feb. 18th, and to compete at Showdown 2011. As the band prepares to take on these two major industry events, we grabbed a quick interview with the artists to see what inspires them to make music.

Introducing New Company:

Noah Knight - Guitar/Vocals

Baelei Pierce - Bass/Vocals

Josh Sleight - Drums

What is your band’s history; how did you get your name?

New Company is a pop punk band that formed in Mississauga Ontario in late late may 2011. We started with drummer Josh Sleight and guitarist Noah Knight leaving their previous bands for a common interest in pop punk alternative music. The name 'New Company' was suggested when the duo had an upcoming show and just needed to be introduced as something.

After multiple shows, we recruited bassist Baelei Pierce on bass and now has recorded at major studios, opened for platinum major label band illScarlett, played some of Toronto's most infamous venues such as the Velvet underground and the Sound Academy to mention a few.

How would you describe your sound?

New Company has created an original sound mixing the sounds of more punk and alternative bands like My Chemical Romance & NoFx and pop sounds from bands like Greenday and Blink 182.

Is there any other Artist who you’d consider a ‘mentor’?

Joel Martin. << Legend.

For you, what is the most rewarding thing about being in a band?

Writing songs that mean something to us and having other people enjoy them as well. And playing music for fans.

Do you have a favourite band memory?

After our first show as a duo when people really liked us and our style and really enjoyed our music.

Is it hard for a new artist in “today’s music industry”?

Yes. It has always been a a challenge for new artists but the challenges are always different. Like in “today's” music world anyone can record in there basement ... so everyone does. So there really is no advantage from that.

How did your band find Supernova.com?

We had been searching for a website like Supernova for a while and accidentally stumbled across it. Supernova is great for getting gigs and getting your music around and getting opportunities you wouldn't normally get...

What would be your band’s ‘motto’ or ‘recipe’ for putting on a good show?

A bad show is a punk show, and a punk show is a good show.

What is the strangest place you have ever played?

In a washroom.

Is there such a thing as ‘bad’ music?

Bad music is music that not even the artist enjoys.

What else should a new fan know about you?

We have no single genre, we write anything and everything.

On the back of their latest show, New Company has been invited to perform next at the Coalition Showcase on February 18th, at the El Mocambo in Toronto. They will also hit the stage for Showdown 2011 on March 3rd at the Velvet Underground.

Be sure to catch these young musicians at one of these awesome upcoming events, and in the meantime take a listen + leave a comment on their profile!
