Having spent the past few years writing and recording in Toronto and Los Angeles, Canadian singer-songwriter Elliot Caroll has finally shaped the output into her debut album. Produced by Michael Eisenstein, the self-titled EP opts for a richer, full band sound while maintaining the more distinctive elements of Elliot's self-described "bedroom pop" that got people listening in the first place.
Growing up, Elliot abandoned classical piano practice to play the music that she credits today for her love of perfect melodies (Carole King, Burt Bacharach), lush arrangements (Beach Boys, Peter Gabriel) and smart songwriting (Aimee Mann, Matthew Sweet, Semisonic). At the age of 16, her original songs caught the ear of producer and former Our Lady Peace guitarist Mike Turner, who recorded her first studio demos.
After alt-country artist Rhett Miller pulled her onstage for a well-received duet, Elliot began producing the songs that would define her unique sound: intimate, alto vocals; electroacoustic instrumentation; clever, candid lyrics; and surf rock harmonies. In 2007, she released a music video for the hooky hometown ode "Songtario", which was deemed "perhaps the next hottest video to race around the interweb" by BlogTO.
Now, Elliot is gearing up to perform her new material live and continue expanding the audience that relates to her heartfelt music. She has most recently written or worked with Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo), Chris Fudurich (Nada Surf, RX Bandits) and Stacy Jones (American Hi-Fi, Veruca Salt).
